A collector’s item, this circa 1970s Berber sleeping rug from the plains of Marrakech has a glorious, unpredictable design woven in mixed technique (knotted pile and flatweave). Soft warm colours have been used with great skill and finesse, and abstract rectangular and square motifs seem to float on the fine flatweave bands, all framed by sawtooth edges. In lovely condition, this rare rug has a few areas of colour transfer and some restorations in the body of the piece and is woven in fine pure wool on a base of goat’s wool.
