A very old pure wool rug, dating from when classic Beni Ouarain carpets were full of detail and finesse and packed with delicate symbols and motifs. This rug may once have been a longer carpet but now it is a lovely compact size. The hand-spun cream wool is very lightly suffused and some of the pink dye of the design and the soft pile is gently worn a little lower in places through use. With a visible restoration in the flatweave end, this pre-1960s rug is still intact and hails from what many see as a lost age of Berber weaving
