From the Middle Atlas mountains - an area known for its rich tradition of weaving arts  - this gorgeous old rug served a practical function as a family sitting and sleeping rug yet it also showcases the artistic skills of its creator. The presence of figures and protective symbols throughout the rug suggests perhaps a deeply personal narrative or connection to the family that created and owned it. Now worn to a soft almost blanket-like feel, it is nevertheless robust and in lovely vintage condition. It has been woven in cotton on a cotton base, and the colours remain clear.
