This is a beautiful circa 1950s Beni Ouarain rug, with the typically deep dark cream wool of original rugs from that time period. This rug is of the type rarely found, and certainly not woven, these days. An intricate all-over diamond pattern is subtly changed or ‘broken’ at one end of the rug - a lovely weaving technique seen in older Berber rugs. The Berber knots are fine, small, and exquisite, and the wool is of the very best quality from the renowned sheep of the region. There is pile loss where the rug was, for many years, folded to be sat upon and some of this wear has been filled in with an extremely fine looped pile in natural dark brown. There is one small area on one edge where an additional artisanal repair has been made, as well as two small repairs in the body of the carpet
