This rare mid century Azilal rug is well worn and well used, as genuine and very old tribal rugs should be, and has a beautifully organic composition, skilfully created with a strong and creative interplay between the lozenge and half lozenge-focused design and the use of bold and assertive colour. Wear is charmingly uneven, with one end retaining a relatively high pile while in other areas the base peeks through. Now delicate and with a soft textural interest this is a lovely and desirable mid century example of Berber weaving from the Azilal tribal peoples, woven in undyed cream wool from the region and coloured cotton
