1960s Al Haouz Carpet

1960s Al Haouz Carpet
A vintage Moroccan Al Haouz carpet, from the northern plains of Marrakech knotted in a beautiful palette of undulating red hues, in fine hand-spun pure wool on a base of goats wool. The simple and graphic symbolism speaks to a time when rugs woven for personal use told very personal narratives. In very good condition for its age (circa 1960s/70s) the pile is low to medium in a fine tight weave. At one end the owner (s) has written their initials or symbols to show ownership - this is a sign of a genuine family rug
