From the southern region of the Beni Ouarain weaving confederation, this large soft hand-woven rug is full of delightful complexity with unbridled variety in the geometric designs, with motif after motif embedded in the piece. The background is a light-touch warm soft tangerine, perhaps lighter than it appears here, and the design is woven in orange, red, charcoal, and brown. The pure wool is dense and silky - this is a flexible rug previously used as a sleeping mat - and of superb quality, with some but remarkably little wear. There are three small repairs that are subtly visible and some fringe loss.
